Over 50 women leaders from across the 35 wards of Kisumu County gathered in Kisumu Town for a comprehensive capacity building workshop organized by the Eliud Owalo Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs Development.
The workshop provided in-depth guidance on forming and managing Cooperative Societies and emphasized the role of grassroots financial models in enhancing economic resilience for women-led groups. The sessions were conducted by top officials from the State Department of Cooperatives, including Mrs. Ann Mutinda (Senior Deputy Commissioner for Cooperatives), Mr. Peter Okul (Assistant Commissioner for Cooperative Development), and Mr. Philip Akama (Kisumu Sub County Cooperatives Officer).
Notable Women leaders present included Hon. Rose Nyamunga, Chairperson of Kenya Postal Corporation and former Kisumu Women Representative, and Caren Aketch, Chairperson of Maendeleo ya Wanawake in Kisumu.
The initiative reflects the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to empowering women as drivers of social and economic transformation.
Hon. Nyamunga lauded the effort, calling for sustained collaboration between the Foundation and grassroots women’s groups to scale impact throughout the county.
