Building Thriving Communities

Our work is deeply rooted in the community we serve, engaging with local residents, businesses, and organizations to ensure our efforts are responsive, effective and owned by all.

Our Approach

Our approach is participatory and collaborative. Our staff members commence their work within a community by actively engaging in dialogue with its members, to gain a deep understanding of the issues and challenges they face. Our approach is driven by a commitment to addressing the root causes of poverty and injustice. Our collaborative efforts focus on designing comprehensive, sustainable solutions that encompass critical elements such as access to clean water, a strong emphasis on child protection, and the creation of economic development opportunities.

Through a participatory process, we work closely with the community to formulate a comprehensive plan. This plan encompasses not only the identification of challenges but also the development of strategies to overcome them. It includes an explicit framework for evaluating and measuring the success of our initiatives. Importantly, we ensure that community members are actively involved, empowered, and equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to take ownership of the programs and drive their progress.

We annually revisit the original plan to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of our interventions. If we find that our objectives are not being met, we are quick to make the necessary adjustments. This commitment to continuous improvement is central to our approach, known as the LEAP framework (Learning through Evaluation and Planning). By working collaboratively, we leverage each other’s strengths and resources to enhance the sustainability of our efforts.

Our collaborative network extends beyond our organization as we bring together various stakeholders, including local churches, religious organisations, businesses, community organizations, and other non-profits. This holistic approach enables us to work collectively and cohesively towards our shared mission of promoting community development and addressing pressing social challenges, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Monitoring & Evaluation

We believe that measuring progress is vital to our commitment and responsibility to the communities we serve, our partners, and our generous donors.

Our approach begins with a baseline survey before initiating any project. Each program is carefully designed to assess progress against specific well-being indicators within the community.
On an annual basis, we revisit these indicators to make comparisons with the initial baseline data. This information serves as a compass for the community, enabling them to make informed decisions and adjust their path if needed.

Throughout this journey, we continuously measure and share results with community members, fostering awareness and validating the impact of changes. We also actively engage the community for feedback through qualitative interviews and focus group discussions.

Collaboration With Charity Evaluators

To further enhance accountability and transparency, we are in the process of formalizing our collaboration with independent charity evaluators. These organizations rigorously evaluate financial management, program performance, fundraising practices, and governance within the charity sector. Our partnership with these evaluators ensures that the Eliud Owalo Foundation is held to the highest standards of accountability and transparency.
